(GRAND RAPIDS, MICH)—July 10, 2010—Artist Stephanie Schlatter held an exhibit at the
Kubiac Art Gallery located at 48 Center Street in Douglas, Michigan, on Saturday, August 28, 2010, from 6-9 p.m. The exhibit,
"Uncorked" The Paintings, was a tempting prelude to her
The large collection of vineyard-themed paintings that were included in the exhibit were reminiscent of Stephanie's Art Prize entry, Uncorked, a fantasy space of art, design, and wine, which were on display outside of
The B.O.B. in downtown Grand Rapids, for ArtPrize in 2010.
Ten years ago, while studying photography, Stephanie developed an interest in painting. "It was just a calling that I was instantly passionate about. It came from somewhere outside of myself," said Stephanie. She has always been interested in vineyard-themed paintings, like those in the Uncorked series, and it is a theme that she revisits often in her work. "I love wine country," said Stephanie.
In addition to enjoying a wine and cheese reception at the
event, visitors were able to enter a drawing to win one of
Stephanie's 12 x 12 paintings. Patrons were also able to view other
artists' work on display at the gallery; however, Stephanie's art (www.stephanieschlatterart.com) was the primary focus of the event.
Stephanie Schlatter draws inspiration from the world
around her for her art. While she calls Grand Rapids, Michigan home,
she's often off on new adventures across the globe. She has studied
art both locally and abroad, including time in Mexico where she
decided to shift her focus from photography to painting. Stephanie's
travels led her to found
Art Aid for Tesfa in 2006, the creative division of the
Tesfa Foundation, through which she brings art classes to the children of Ethiopia while supporting their education. Stephanie is a Board Member of the Tesfa Foundation.
