Artist Stephanie Schlatter Exhibits Installation at ArtPrize 2010
(GRAND RAPIDS, MICH)—Sept 19, 2010—Artist Stephanie Schlatter in partnership with architect
Denise Hopkins displayed an installation exhibit at
ArtPrize 2010, in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, for which she placed in the Top 100. The exhibit, "Uncorked" The Paintings, was a large collection of vineyard-themed paintings, a fantasy space of art, design, and wine, which were on display outside of
The B.O.B. in downtown Grand Rapids from September 19 through October 7, 2010.
A fantasy of art, design, and wine, Uncorked was a collaboration between Stephanie and Denise. They created a place where the architecture and the art were unified. Uncorked was comprised of 23 4x8 acrylic painted glass panels that created a fantasy wine-tasting room with tables, chairs, and even a chandelier. Then at times through the duration of ArtPrize, they conducted wine tasting within the exhibit.
Ten years ago, while studying photography, Stephanie Schlatter developed an interest in painting. "It was just a calling that I was instantly passionate about. It came from somewhere outside of myself," said Stephanie. She has always been interested in vineyard-themed paintings, like those in the Uncorked series, and it is a theme that she revisits often in her work. "I love wine country," said Stephanie. In June 2011, she traveled the Michigan Wine Country touring wine producers in the Leelanau and Mission Peninsulas of Northern Michigan, learning about the art of winemaking and drawing inspiration for new works of art, which you can see at Stephanie’s Facebook page.
ArtPrize is an art competition open to artists from around the world who can find a venue to support them. Instead of a juried competition, ArtPrize is voted on by the public, and the top 10 entries win prizes, $250,000 going to first prize. The event occurs at the end of September and the beginning of October.
